VACC Camp

In 1986, a camp was started for ventilation assisted children. Over the years, Dr. Moire Simpser has continued the camp as an offshoot of one of Miami Children's Hospital programs. Dr. Simpser believes that rescuing these children from hospital settings or hospital-like settings in homes and providing them with experiences such as swimming and sailing, in a safe environment, is vital for many reasons, as he explains in the video below.

I spent time several summers at Camp CAMP, where children using vents could spend a week, and be placed in a pool.

Barbara- thanks very much for the link. I'm wondering how many camps like this are available in different states. From the video it sounds as if there are only a few.

I have a good idea of what is available here in Texas.

I just googled
camp children disabilities.

>400,000 hits.

Interesting that you met Mr. Reeve' mother.

I'm going to Mass a bit later.

Happy Sunday! Barbara

Barbara-
Yes, hundreds of thousands! I was actually wondering how many vent assisted camps were out there nationwide, because the doctor said he was hoping every state would have one at some point. What I have found is that some camps for kids with disabilities are run by hospitals, many by civic organizations - a real mix of sponsorship going on.
