Wheelchairs - Going vertical !

I've used my share of wheelchair lifts in my life but never seen one like this. It's a glass lift that appears to come out of nowhere - appears out of a flight of steps. The best visual description I can come up with is that the flight of stairs folds like wall bleachers and the lift slowly becomes visible....

Sure you can link to it. I really think this is the coolest lift I've ever seen...

Nifty.

Ok, that is weirdly radical.

But is it better? The now-you-see-them, now-you-don't stairs are unnecessary, because there's another set of stairs. Their only function appears to be to hide the fact that there's a lift.

I'd rather accessibility stuff be out there loud and proud where you can find it. That's just too darn subtle for me.

And while we're on the subject, can someone make a lift that's fast? At least as fast as someone walking up the stairs?

Katja,
Oh I know - lifts are painfully slow. One thing that also concerns me with glass lifts is that they could be more difficult for some to see and/or navigate even assuming safety glass...
