This tasteless cartoon about Stephen Hawking, who is in hospital right now, made my stomach turn. It appears in Metro.
It's hard enough getting the medical concerns of a person with a severe disability attended to in this country without putting images out there that further dehumanize us.

Ugh! That is terrible! Reminds me of those awful Helen Keller jokes we used to tell when we were kids. I don't know why we thought they were funny. Thanks for sharing!

Well, the media strikes again, Wheelie! I would love to experience just a single day on this planet when we aren't confronted with varying degrees of stupidity, poor taste or ignorance. I hope Dr. Hawking improves and can go on with his life. He is a wonderful scientist whose books and teaching deserve discussion but once more our ableist culture and its media choose to focus on the trappings of disability rather than accomplishment.
