Jerry Lewis, the man who runs the  annual Telethon to raise money for people with muscular dystrophy in the US is  about to receive a humanitarian award. Many people in the disability community  is protesting this award because they feel that Jerry perpetuates and entrenches  negative, harmful stereotypes toward people with disabilities. Just signed this petition and remembering how my mother was always disgusted with Jerry Lewis' portrayal of PWDs. A woman ahead of her time.
Yes, she was. And his remarks about pwd over the years have really led to a movement that started with a few brave people who spoke up.
