It's so fascinating when I get takeout during lunch

During my lunch break yesterday, I decided to treat myself to garlic eggplant at a restaurant around the corner. I rolled in, gave them my order and was returning a call on my cell phone when I noticed that, at two of the four tables I could see, business-type folks were looking over at me with that rather long look sometimes referred to as a stare.

Let's be clear here. There's a difference between staring and staaaarrrriiiinnngggggg. The latter is like taffy that just keeps getting pulled.

At this point I'm on the phone with a client and concentrating on the call. I listen, answer him and look over again. Still staring. The call ends. Still staring. The waiter brings me my takeout food and he sees me looking at them looking at me so he looks over at them.

So now they are staring at me, I am staring back at them and the waiter is staring back at them. The waiter says "What's wrong with them? They've never seen a wheelchair before?"

I shrug. "Don't have time. Have to get back to work. Thanks."

"But that is so rude," the waiter says, ready to go to battle about it.

Incorrigibles.

"I have to get back to work," I tell the waiter and thank him.

They are still staring as I leave.

I hate it even more when I'm eating in the restaurant and people stare.

Definitely, great post. Sorry this is your experience. I have to wonder what's going on in their heads sometimes or if they could even articulate it.

I hate that as well, I started looking left and right real quick like I'm trying to see what they are looking at.... then I flash a big smile!
Some people just suck....lol

I've also tried stage whispering to one of the people with me, if someone is with me, "Is that person staring at me? Why is that person staring at me?" And then pointing and asking a little louder. Starts to make them squirm.

Sorry I missed responding to these comments!

Greg - great idea. LOL

Frida- is that person staring at me? hehe

I like Frida's idea too!

I get stared at a lot in Asian restaurants, because I can't handle chopsticks well. It's okay when I go for sushi - you're supposed to eat that with your hands, according to my Japanese teacher! But Chinese noodle dishes can be a real chore.
