PVS diagnosis under scrutiny - another woman wakes up and eats cake

Via Lifesite

I saw this story over at the Curt Jester this morning. (Interesting discussion in the comments about disability as well.) His blog is in my Catholic links.

I've linked above to the story which notes that this has happened before , where people awake from supposed persistent vegetative states. In this case, the doctor ascribes it to "mystical " reasons. This woman woke up, spoke, even ate cake - and then lapsed back into unconsciousness.

How humbling this should be to those legislating for laws like the Futile Care Act in Texas. It shows how little we still know medically - and how quick this doctor was to attribute such awakenings to "mystical" reasons when it happens, as Jeff over at the Curt Jester points out. (I'll get a link on here as soon as my right equipment is hooked up.)
