Vista tablet supports touch

..via finger as well as stylus. Go here for a video.

There are concerns about Vista having a speech recognition hole, whereby voice recognition can be hijacked by a malicious mp3 file and told to delete files...

Sounds like damage control to me. They'll come back later and quietly put a security patch to fix it. Thanks for sharing this, though. Microsoft is giving XP users 2 more years of free support, and then it's pay, or upgrade.

Not all my peripherals have Vista drivers available yet, so I'm waiting.

Unfortunately, this is not an easy security issue to patch, and I do not expect MS to come up with a solution any time soon. I have a post on it here.
The technological obstacles are huge.

Anyway, the majority of users will not be affected by this exploit since you have to have the voice recognition/control software activated (and it's not activated by default).

As far as upgrading to Vista, even though MS only claims they'll give free support for 2 years, the costs of upgrading to Vista are pretty significant now. Yet another post on that here.
The biggest obstacle for most users to upgrade now is hardware.

My hardware is fine. My problem is incompatible software and some peripherals.

As for the voice recognition problem, there would be plenty of disabled people who would have this activated at all times. It could be a serious problem for them, I would think.

This reminds me, Ruth, of your voice activated remote control that the TV was giving commands to itself, before you solved it with "silly".

disgruntled ladye- thanks for the tech information!
db - I really think they need to address the issue of malicious mp3 files for users of voice recognition and I agree it could be done easily by just setting it up to use a command word (as you pointed out I did with the remote control). (They should have checked things out with a quad eh?) LOL
