Ash Wednesday

Visual description: Drawing of a person's forehead with ashes upon it in the sign of a cross.

“Teach us to number our days aright,
that we may gain wisdom of heart.”

"The Cross is the definitive revelation of love and divine mercy, also for us, men and women of our time too often distracted by worldly and momentary concerns and interests. God is love and His love is the secret of our happiness. To enter into this mystery of love there is no other way than that of losing ourselves, giving ourselves, the way of the Cross.

....

For this reason the liturgy of Lent invites us ... to reject sin and evil, and overcome selfishness and indifference, Prayer, fasting, penance and works of charity towards our brothers and sisters thus become spiritual paths to follow in order to return to God."

Pope Benedict XVI

My name is Edith. I am 89 years old and can no longer go get ashes. I read your blog because I like the prayers and articles on different people. I think when we get older we understand more about how important each person is. It's good to make people feel included. I like your descriptions of pictures. I can't see that well so it stops me from guessing. Wishing you the best.

Dear Edith,
Thank you for your comment. Seniors have much to offer all of us from their life experiences and I hope you feel comfortable commenting more often! Glad the descriptions help. Take good care of yourself.

Quiet over here today - as it should be on Ash Wednesday. Just wanted to say hi. (And I noticed the purple.)
