Some resources developed as a result of working with people with disabilities who are doing service work....general guidelines for those who are worried about saying or doing the wrong thing....
I make mistakes every day myself. I appreciate it when people are willing and open to checking things out because we can ALL make mistakes just by not being aware. Being in community at my church has taught me about how the able bodied person feels/reacts toward a person with a disability like myself- but I've been in a wheelchair over 13 years now and I forget sometimes that it's all new to them!
I find the phrase "confined to a wheelchair" particularly annoying myself, as it makes it sound like the wheelchair is the problem. It's not - it's part of the solution.

Well, I can start apologizing right now, as I've made several of those mistakes all my life. I'll try to do better.
