Happy day after Thanksgiving

I had a wonderful thanksgiving yesterday. I hope you did too.  I saw some good friends, spent part of the day with family and part of the day volunteering.

I  refuse to call today Black Friday. It's the day after Thanksgiving.

I'm asking that if you don't feel like dealing with the hassle of shopping, consider participating in Sandy relief or offering a donation in someone's name.

The effects of Sandy are still very real in this area. People still need a lot of help.  They've lost their homes and everything in them.  Disabled folks have lost their wheelchairs, assistive devices and accessible (or in some cases semi-accessible) homes. Nothing resembling a 'normal' holiday season will happen for many families. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

There are many grass roots efforts to help. Please consider also that many well established organizations need your support if you're not sure who to give to.

Food pantries need help due to the increased demand for help.  Those in the Sandy areas can be found by contacting Feeding America.  The Red Cross still needs donations.  On twitter, you can find ways to volunteer by following #SandyRelief  #SandyVolunteers and #OccupySandy . Please see other posts below for more information.

The Kessler Foundation is offering emergency grants for those nonprofit organizations assisting disabled people in the aftermath of Sandy.
