Kindle 2

A new Kindle (Kindle 2) has been released by Amazon, shipping to begin on February 24. I am hoping to get a demo so I can update my review. There are reviews out there, but we need some by people with disabilities who can try out the joystick, for example , and the text to speech functions to see how they work.

Please follow the labels below to read about Kindle and how it's useful as assistive technology.

I just saw a review here:

For me the biggest quibble is whether the new version will include page numbers from the original text, or even have its own page numbers.

Wow, thanks for the link. They gave it a very negative review on the accessibility features. Would love to try it out and review it myself, but will have to see if I get a demo.

Ruth,
if it helps at all please feel free to use pittrehabcounselor.com as a forum for your review. I really enjoyed your last review! I know how busy you are but if you're ever looking to become an editor please consider this an invitation to pittrehabcounselor ! Have a great day and good luck getting a demonstration model.

Thanks so much, Greg, I really appreciate that offer. I think it's very important to get the word out on new products. There's a huge market out there for companies who sometimes don't realize it.

I just saw this too. Though there wasn't much in review. The good or the bad. So thanks for the link.

In real speak the one male and one female would be alright but it wouldn't be the best of their software from my understanding. And the fonts only being up to 18 point that isn't much for those with low vision that uses magnifiers and the point size maybe up 46 give or take. So they would have to rely on the text to speech. The problem would be much like microsoft Sam and Mary as it wouldn't be the AT&T Real voices.

I could see there would be an issue with people that has learning disabilities as one person I know uses highlight yellow and another a different highlight depending on the background colour. So if there would be a function for these options of setting it to ones needs then it would be a good device.

Imagine the market they would have in schools if Kindles had features such as highlight for kids with learning disabilities. Thanks for your comments.

Oh wouldn't that be grand! Of course it would be mind boggling for the schools to have such things if they are available.
