Fearnley and Hunkeler win NY city Marathon 2008


Edith Hunkeler and Kevin Fearnley beat out the field to win this year's NY city marathon, wheelchair division. (They are pictured above after their win, holding the garlands.)

Hunkeler has won all four times in four starts and was ahead the entire race. Fearnley won his third consecutive race.

The New York City has come a long way since the bad old days when Fred Lebow did his level best to prevent wheelchair athletes from competing. A few things are still needed for the race to be truly inclusive. For instance, significantly raise the money earned by elite wheelchair athletes.

Definitely! Most of these events lowball wheelchair athletes on what they are given in prize money.
