Mortgage forgiven for 90 year old woman who shot herself as evicted

Fannie Mae has decided to forgive a mortgage on a house owned by a 90 year old woman who shot herself twice in the upper body on Wednesday as sheriffs tried to evict her from her home. Her story was discussed in Congress this week. She is in the hospital.

U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, mentioned Polk on the House floor Friday during debate over the latest economic rescue proposal.

"This bill does nothing for the Addie Polks of the world," Kucinich said after telling her story. "This bill fails to address the fact that millions of homeowners are facing foreclosure, are facing the loss of their home. This bill will take care of Wall Street, and the market may go up for a few days, but democracy is going downhill." via cnn.com

It is in light of events like this that perhaps Congress should review their choices and consider holding emergency sessions to address the foreclosures facing so many Americans that will continue if they don't return until January 2009.

And now that Fannie Mae has forgiven her mortgage, and given her the deed outright, there will be thousands of attempted suicides now. Great job Fannie Mae!! I’m not mocking this woman by any means, but publicly announcing that her debts will be forgiven because she tried to kill herself is going to open a whole new world of fraud. Wonderfully pathetic society that is developing in the US…

How horrible. Is she going to live?

She's in critical condition, according to the article.

i think there should be age limit where these mortgage companys/banks should just forgive or work out something with the eledery especially after id so many years they see them paying on time and doing what they are suppose to and OBVIOUSLY because there old they will die and the other spouse is left alone, in bad health probably in a wheelchair whatever the situtation is and cant do it without there loved ones there so they fall behind and cant keep up so yes they should be forgiven... AND NO fannie mae did nothing wrong and NO there wont be alot of suicide attempts because of this..there have been suicide FOREVER because people cant pay there bills this was only heard of because the woman was 90 years old they didint hear about the 35 year old man 15 years ago who killed him self and left behind his wife and 2 young children because he wasnt able to keep up eith his bills and mortgage..so its wrong to say that this woman gave a bad example obviously people know that by attempting something stupid like this will not get them out of there hole there is FRAUD everyday, people lying everyday to get a loan or line of credit people lying to get welfare or food stamps so this is not going to open up another world of fraud its already happening for years now if PEOPLE havent noticed so i wish the best for that 90 year old woman and i know she will be back at her PAID OFF home and i wish her many more years so she can enjoy her home she did it all right along with her late husband but she could nomore when he left and so the lord has forgiven and gave her home back
