This story about how a volunteer nun working at the polls had to turn away elderly nuns without photo ID in Indiana probably makes for a good story for some, but to me it speaks volumes of the problems involved with the law as it applies to people with disabilities- as well as the elderly, including that those without transportation cannot get to a motor vehicle office to get ID so requiring this places an insurmountable barrier on their right to vote.
Although the article emphasizes that the nuns in their 80's and 90's knew of the requirement, that begs the question. It seems that the convent can help them solve the problem : but what of others who don't have access to that kind of assistance? And what of those who physically cannot get to a place to get the photo ID?
You know I have more to say about all of that.
