Mother of Mine: A Movie Review

This 2006 Finnish film is about war orphans - over 70,000 Finnish children who were sent to neutral Sweden during WWII to stay with surrogate parents- and about one boy in particular. Young Eero leaves his mother and Finland after his father is killed in the war and goes to stay with a couple who are dealing with their own grief at losing their six year old daughter. The separation from his biological mother leaves Eero confused and feeling abandoned, but when he returns to Finland after the war is over, his emotions become even more complicated.

This was an excellent film with an uplifting ending that dealt with the theme of redemptive love and had characters that will stay with you long after you finish watching it. Directed by Klaus Haro. For a longer review, go here.
