The two little girls were on bicycles, pink and blue, with matching helmets. They stopped on the other side of the street, straddling their bicycle seats, watching the traffic. I sat in my power chair, watching them watch the traffic. When a driver in a sedan waved the two girls on, they mounted their bikes and slowly pedaled across the street. I hit my joystick and started down the curbcut.
We passed in the middle of the street.
"Hello," I said, smiling.
Neither little girl said anything. Probably their parents told them not to talk to strangers. But I overheard one say to the other "She can go faster than this stupid bike."
To which the other responded "Yeah and she doesn't have to pedal either."
