Reading "White on Black"

..by Ruben Gallego - (winner of the Russian Booker Prize).

From the cover: "Heralded as a groundbreaking expose of the Soviet Union's abuse of the handicapped...the resulting narrative feels at once concentrated and universalized beyond specific individuals or nations". NY Times

Born in 1968 with cerebral palsy, Ruben , at the age of one, was sent to a Soviet state institution by his grandfather who was the secretary general of the Spanish Communist Party during the 60's to hide him away. He stayed in orphanages, hospitals and old age homes during his childhood. As an adult, he married, became a father and worked in the computer field.
