I am posting this message received from Christopher's mom
through the NJCIM list serve, urging those of us who care about
issues involving PWD to support this movie. These are her words:
"My Brother marks the first time in cinema history where two
African American actors with a developmental disability (Down
Syndrome), have played leading roles in a feature motion picture.
The movie beautifully illustrates the story of two impoverished
boys and their bond of love for each other. One brother is
developmentally disabled, the other struggles with being told by
his mother to always watch over his brother.
Please support this movie by going to see it at openings across the
country beginning this weekend on March 16th in select theaters!
This film has already won 4 best picture, 3 best actress,
and 2 best actor awards among a host of other awards and honors.
In July, Christopher, the young star of the film, received "The Founder's Award" for
Outstanding Achievement in Film at the American Black Film
Festival in Miami. My Brother has received more critical acclaim
and awards than any other African American film, with the
exception of Spielberg's successful The Color Purple made in 1985,
and it hasn't even opened yet!
[If you are affiliated with an organization, you can plan a "Movie
Party". Publish information about the film in your organization,
school, church or community newsletters.]" She adds that Christopher
*may* be available for some personal appearances if requested -
