I've heard about this program before and think it's an excellent idea. It humanizes the inmates, as only a warm cuddly puppy can do, teaches them responsibility, as they train their dog, and helps them to see themselves as being useful. The recipient of the dog obviously benefits, so it is a win-win all around.
